For those of you who were unable to attend the recent CEGSA AGM, you missed some very historic happenings. This CEGSA AGM was filled with learning from a thought-provoking guest speaker, ceremony in the bestowing of two life memberships and the excitement of the dawn of a new era with the vote of a name change for our association. This was all supported by a very active Twitter backchannel as well as the online attendance of CEGSA members in country locations.

The evening started with an address by Mark Sparvell, Executive Consultant Innovation and ICT at Principals Australia, on Building Tomorrow, Everyday.

The room was abuzz with tweets while Mark spoke. Here are some of the thought provoking tweets that were shared by some of our attendees

If you would like to follow the longer thread of this AGM backchannel, our Vice-President Tina Photakis, created a Storify of the entire evening and you can read the full story here

After Mark’s great spotlight, our attention was turned to a very important moment in CEGSA’s history as two of our longest standing committee members were bestowed with CEGSA Life Membership. Anne Ballard and Ralph Leonard joined Kerrie Smith in this well deserving group of people who have devoted many, many hours and much expertise in helping the educators of South Australia learn about ICT.

At the AGM we were also able to honour some of the great work done by South Australian educators in the area of ICT. This year we were fortunate enough to not just present our own CEGSA Educator of the Year award to Christine Haynes, but also the national award of ACCE Educator of the year. We also presented Kim Martin with this year’s Leading Light.

The final major event for the AGM was the vote concerning the renaming of CEGSA. It was officially voted and accepted at the AGM that CEGSA is to be renamed EdTechSA. We are now in the process of lodging all the official paperwork and when this is approved we will launch our brand new face to the world.

In this Masterclass, George will lead participants through the process of creating a digital portfolio, highlighting the importance of reflecting as a means to continue to learn and grow in their profession. This will lead to showcasing the participants’ work by connecting and sharing with others. George will support participants to do this themselves through blogging so that what they learn in this one-day workshop is practical and can be used after this workshop.

What participants will expect from the workshop:

Participants can expect to leave with their own digital portfolio and have a thorough understanding on how to create something similar with their students, which will showcase their work and can be aligned to the Australian Curriculum and achievement standards for assessment of learning.

Participants can also expect to learn about how to evidence the professional standards for teaching, touching upon the 3 domains: Professional Knowledge, Professional Practice and Professional Engagement.

Morning tea and lunch included.

This is a hands-on BYO session. Bring along your charged laptop and ensure that your laptop is configured to be used at another location. To test this, use your laptop at another venue prior to the workshop.

A recent quote from George highlights this:

“I really believe that classrooms need to be learner focused. This is not simply that students are creating but that they are also having opportunities to follow their interests and explore passions. The teacher should embody learning as well.”

In this spotlight session, George will share several elements of what we should be looking for in today’s classroom, knowing that focusing on only a few at a time, can start the move towards a transformational learning environment.

What participants can expect from the workshop:

Participants can expect to build on their knowledge and experience on what today’s classroom looks like. They will also reflect on their own practice and how it provides opportunities for students to make a difference to their learning.

An opportunity for small group conversations is included in the program, enabling participants to discuss the elements that George presents and how they relate to their practice.

Are you seeking to stand out from the crowd and add that something special to your next job application? Or, are you are seeking to extend your participation in a dynamic professional learning network for the benefit of your students?

One sure way to do both of these things would be to receive a CEGSA award!

As an award winner, your knowledge and skills will be recognised by a panel of respected peers and you will open up new professional networking and leadership opportunities.

Every year CEGSA has the pleasure of recognising educators across our state who have contributed to the leadership and implementation of best practice in learning with ICT across the curriculum and about IT as a discipline.

Now is the time to nominate for the following awards for 2013.

The Computers in Education Group of South Australia (CEGSA) has three awards to recognise the contribution of individual members to the advocacy of ICT in Education. The three awards are:
